2 Poems- by Liesl

Emotions

Fury, hate, fear, greed
Swirling torrent overwhelms
Red, black, orange, green
Colors fly
Behind closed eyes
Threatening to devour
Who I am

Excitement, love, joy, hope
Riding on a wave of emotion
Purple, pink, blue, yellow
Colors fly
Behind closed eyes
Drowning out
All the hate

To find who I am

How far do I have to go
To find who I am?
Do I play twenty questions
With myself?
Do I say,
Who are you?
What do you want?
And I tell myself
I know what I want
I want a place
With no hate
A place to love
And be loved

  1. Liesl--I really like the second poem. You introduce an interesting topic: how far do we have to go/how far are we willing to go to discover who we truly are? I think it could be longer--there seems to be something critical missing between your opening questions & your answer. Because this is an issue that is universal--so many people (if not everyone!) deals with this, than I think you could cleverly expand on the path and process that gets you to the end. I love reading your poetry--you can be so insightful!
