Math- Liesl

Math

Math. What can I say?
Numbers. Symbols. Equations. Fractions.
Can I say… Whatever?
I know that I need it.
I want to be good.
But there is no part of me
That cares about
Pythagorean theorems,
means extremes properties,
how fractions can become decimals
or how to
determine what kind of triangle
that one in the corner is.
I mean yes, it is cool,
but I just don't like numbers.
I know I need it.
I want to be good.
But numbers don’t…
Line up in my head
Like I know they should
And what is this business
Of having letters and numbers
in the same equation?
Math just…
Doesn’t make sense.
I know I need it.
And I want to be good.
But math,
what can I say?

  1. I like this poem because it is relatable, even though I like math. Sometimes I get annoyed when I can't understand math too!

  2. I think this is really good Liesl. You really used different punctuation and a different format. It was a really good topic that you chose and instead of just saying that you don't really like math, you put it into clever words and phrases. I think this is a really good piece! Wasn't the topic this week time though???

  4. Even though I like math, I totally get what you're saying. It's funny but serious at the same time...if that makes sense. I like how you give examples of what kind of math you're talking about. I really like the ending lines :) -Liz
